These prints were created with the symbolism and meaning behind each of them, and designers used them to impart or share information with the user. They were utilized as a form of non-verbal communication, using fashion to indirectly imply certain messages. The alphabet was an icon that was featured in a print due to it being a way to inform others that you were literate and able to read this was used as bragging rights and people would wear them to show off their skills. Placement of the prints was also so imperative and scale was important as prints with bigger icons would typically be used on long skirts and dresses. Whereas smaller condensed prints would be on garments with smaller surface areas. Thousands have prints have been created throughout the continent with different regions creating fabrics with significance to their people.
